China seizes, returns USN glider
On 20 December China quietly returned the US Navy's UUV that it had brazenly seized five days earlier in the South China Sea.
The platform was a Slocum Glider, although when contacted manufacturer Teledyne Marine directed all communications to the USN Oceanographic Office. All calls to the Oceanographic Office went unanswered.
Teledyne Marine’s Slocum G2 Glider is a capable platform featuring an independent processor for data acquisition, customisable for a variety of acoustic, optical and chemical sensors with a multi-depth capability.
International media reports indicate that such systems are part of a greater US effort to establish an underwater listening
