US Army activates Apache-Shadow V2 UAV unit

The first US Army Apache battalion to organically pair with new Shadow V2 (RQ-7Bv2) UAVs has been activated.

US Army officials announced that the 1st Battalion, 501st Aviation (1/501) Regiment – based in Fort Bliss, Texas – has converted to a heavy attack reconnaissance squadron and is the first of 10 Army attack reconnaissance battalions to convert.

A ceremony held on 16 March saw the 1/501 reflagged as the 3rd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment (3-6 CAV).
