UDT 2016: Private firm to field unmanned survey fleet

An American company is bidding to become the second largest operator of Hugin AUVs in the world. It will begin taking delivery of its 14 AUVs, USVs and ROVs in Q1 next year.

SeaTrepid International are aiming to provide an unmanned mapping and search capability from its platoon of unmanned vehicles, which when deployed at sea will be controlled from a command ship capable of supporting up to 120 crew and passengers. The company say that all of the vessels could be operated at the same time.

The programme, known as DeepSea, will see six Hugins and other unmanned assets
