UDT 2016: Fully autonomous MCM tests conducted

The US and UK militaries have trialled fully autonomous unmanned mine disposal systems, as industry and operators look to determine the future make up of MCM capabilities.

Much of the programme has been classified but it is possible that one of the unmanned systems used could have been an Archerfish mine disposal system.

Speaking at UDT 2016, an official said that the concept of not having an operator-in-the-loop required a change in naval doctrine for potential users and that until all sides were happy with the final execution decision being done autonomously, a human operator would have the final
