UAV Vision gimbal selected for Airbus Zephyr 8

8th May 2015 - 06:23 GMT | by Gordon Arthur in Hong Kong

The solar-powered Zephyr 8 is part of the High-Altitude Pseudo-Satellite (HAPS) programme being conducted by Airbus Defence and Space, and in early May the company announced it had selected the CM202 multi-sensor gimbal from UAV Vision.

UAV Vision, an Australian-based company specialising in gimbals, can integrate various sensors onto its products. For this project, Airbus required a ‘payload that is capable of operating in extreme environmental conditions at approximately 70,000ft, experiencing extremely low temperatures, up to several months duration', according to a company statement.

The Zephyr’s ISR payload needs to be lightweight and yet produce high-quality EO and IR imagery.
