South Africa eye Wave Glider

The South African Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) could seek a solution to illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing through the Wave Glider USV.

Officials from Liquid Robotics, who manufacture the Wave Glider series of USVs, told Shephard at Xponential that the platform would be able to provide an enduring maritime domain awareness system and monitor vessel movements.

‘[Wave Glider] would be like a park ranger, monitoring fishing vessels through the AIS and then when it is turned off we could still see them, sending back visual images and course,’ said Dan Middleton, EVP global sales and business
