SOFIC 2016: Airbus pushes Zephyr for military applications

Airbus Defence & Space used the SOFIC exhibition to promote the potential military applications of its Zephyr High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (HAPS) system.

‘Zephyr is the solar-powered high altitude UAV that works,’ claimed Paul Brooks, HAPS business development lead. 

‘We hold the world record – 14 days continuous flight – the longest flight unrefuelled of any aircraft, let alone a UAV. No other UAV has flown for more than around 84 hours.’

The company is now building the Zephyr S model, a 100 pound aircraft with an 80 foot wingspan, for the UK MoD.
