Singapore leverages unmanned and AI tech

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has begun live trials of more unmanned, data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) systems to overcome the island-state’s constraints and make the SAF sharper.

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen revealed that technology has allowed his ministry to spend less, from 30% of the national budget in the last decade, to about 19% in the last three years. 

The minister’s vision of an unmanned mine countermeasure fleet is fast becoming a reality as the Republic of Singapore Navy is in the final development stage of a mine countermeasure USV with Thales’ Towed Synthetic Aperture Sonar (
