SELEX Galileo of Finmeccanica will showcase its key products in Surveillance, Targeting, Electronic Warfare and Air Navigation at the Avalon 2009 Air Show in Victoria, Australia.

Building on the Company’s recent contract, with Surveillance Australia Pty Ltd (SAPL), for the supply of 12 SIM airborne surveillance mission system to be installed on Australian Customs Coastwatch, SELEX Galileo is looking toward a number of new opportunities in the Region.

The Company is committed to the Finmeccanica group strategy to strengthen its presence in Australia by offering its know-how and technical expertise it has acquired in over 60 years in the manufacture and design of Unmanned Air Systems (UAS).

The current Australian Defence Force tenders, JP129 and JP66, present key opportunities to supply the country’s Armed Forces with the very best in Surveillance and Targeting capabilities.

SELEX Galileo TUAS solution includes the FALCO tactical unmanned aircraft, a new Common Ground Control Station (CGCS), its world leading sensors and payloads systems and a range of mini-micro UAS (STRIX, ASIO). The FALCO UAS has specific characteristics of deploy ability, endurance, survivability and a wide suite of payloads that make it particularly suitable for enduring surveillance missions, target detection, localisation, identification and designation, which are well suited to border patrol, coastal watch and homeland security requirements. The FALCO has been successfully launched from a pneumatic catapult, allowing the system to be deployed where no airstrip is available highlighting the dynamic qualities of the aircraft.

SELEX Galileo’s new CGCS is STANAG 4586 compliant, meeting UK, US and NATO standards for imagery, command and control for maximum flexibility and speed of operation. Support for the addition of plug-in exploitation modules ensures the ground station can be easily updated at anytime during its life to suit requirements and remain current with new technology. Platform agnostic, SELEX Galileo new CGCS will be able to function with any of the Finmeccanica UAS or any other manufacturers aircraft both manned and unmanned and can be fully networked within NEC architectures.

The Mirach 100/5 multi-role threat simulation system includes the latest state-of-the-art Aerial Target Drone and modern ground control station with a wide selection of mission payloads able to qualify and exercise all required Weapon Systems. In Surveillance, the PicoSAR AESA Radar is a low cost, all weather lightweight surveillance system suitable for tactical UAVs in addition to both fixed and rotary wing manned platforms.

For air carrier operations, SELEX Galileo will promote its PAR (Precision Approach Radar) SPN 720 radar for safe approach and landing, even in extreme weather conditions. The SPN- 720 is a lightweight, compact system which is designed for simple installation and has been contracted by the navies of Italy, the UK and of a Far East nation, this can be fully integrated within the ship’s combat system.
