Second Sea Hunter hull gets go-ahead

A second Sea Hunter USV is to be built by US-based Leidos in a continuation of the programme to deliver a viable long-endurance unmanned ASW capability to the US military.

In a contract award announced on 15 December, the US DoD disclosed that Leidos is to be awarded a $34.5 million contract for the Sea Hunter II - Autonomous Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) Hull Number 2.

The contract contains options that could bring its value up to $43.5 million, if exercised. Construction of Hull 2 is expected to be completed by 2020.
