Schiebel has successfully demonstrated the heavy fuel variant of the Camcopter S-100 UAS to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) as part of its customer acceptance programme, the company announced on 26 March.

The RAN selected Schiebel’s Camcopter S-100 UAS under its Navy Minor Project (NMP) 1942 to meet its interim tactical maritime vertical takeoff and landing UAS requirement. The UAS successfully completed its flying programme for the RAN’s validation and verification at the Jervis Bay Airfield facility in New South Wales, Australia.

During a comprehensive test series, the JP-5 (NATO F-44) heavy fuel powered Camcopter S-100, outfitted with a Wescam MX-10S payload, delivered imagery to commanders at operational ranges of up to 60 nautical miles and altitudes above 10,000ft.

Kevin Beare, the RAN contract manager, said: ‘The heavy fuel variant of the S-100 has performed very well during the validation and verification programme and the RAN looks forward to utilising this platform to achieve NMP1942 project objectives over the coming years.’
