The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) are acquiring a large number of ScanEagle UAVs from manufacturer Insitu through a US Foreign Military Sales (FMS).

Announced by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 25 November, the firm-fixed-price deal with the Boeing subsidiary is worth US$70.9 million and it follows on from a previous basic ordering agreement.

The acquisition covers eight ScanEagle systems and encompasses 65 individual UAVs, spare parts and support equipment. As part of the transaction, Insitu will set up a ScanEagle training facility inside Afghanistan.

When contacted Insitu declined to comment on the deal.
