Jammer resistant drone designs spark search for countermeasures
The Russia-Ukraine conflict has driven another stage of evolution for drones and the counter measures to defend against them.
Saab has received an order from an unnamed customer in the oil and gas sector for the Sabertooth AUV, the company announced on 30 March.
The company said its customer has plans to field a fleet of Sabertooth AUVs.
Sabertooth is a roaming and hovering system that can operate in both AUV and ROV (tethered) modes, enabling fully flexible dual operations from a single platform. The AUV is able to perform tasks including inspection, maintenance and repair across a range of subsea operations such as site investigation surveys through to decommissioning support.
Saab Seaeye will work with the customer to further enhance the capabilities of Sabertooth in order to meet emerging demands. Sabertooth will be equipped with a suite of advanced survey sensors which will be configured for a range of project-specific applications.
The AUV’s iCON intelligent behaviour-based control architecture includes hardware and software building blocks that allow easy integration of systems and speed up future developments.
