S-100 UAV keeping watch over Sochi Olympic Games
Schiebel has announced that a UAV system based on the Camcopter S-100 has provided surveillance throughout the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in cooperation with JSC Gorizont.
According to Schiebel, the UAV has been conducting surveillance operations around the Olympic village, interfacing with the unified safety control system of the games to provide real-time intelligence.
Schiebel and JSC Gorizont announced in 2011 that they would join forces to deliver a UAV based on the Camcopter S-100 to an unnamed Russian government customer. The system, known as the Gorizont Air S-100, is built by JSC Gorizont under licence to Schiebel. The Russian Rubin-class patrol boats will also be equipped with the system for border patrol operations.
Schiebel said the system will also operate during the Paralympic Games from 7 March.
