Robonic and Lockheed Martin have entered an agreement for the development of a fourth-generation pneumatic launcher for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) called OHTO.

Under the agreement, the transportable OHTO will be part of the ground support equipment suite for Lockheed Martin's group III Fury UAS. Lockheed Martin will also be able to produce the OHTO under license in the US.

OHTO will be designed to launch group II and III UAS and target drones. It is based on the the Kontio launcher, but will come with a greater power-to-weight ratio, improved mobility, reduced footprint, lower operating costs and improved reliability.

At present, the Lockheed Martin Fury is launched using the third-generation Kontio for flight testing and initial operations in its development programme.

Juha Moisio, managing director, Robonic, said: 'This relationship marks an important step forward for Robonic. The Lockheed Martin Fury is a prime example of the depth and breadth of new capabilities that group III UAS are now offering military customers and prospects in the commercial market. We are very pleased to be working alongside Lockheed Martin, and bringing OHTO into the US market as a fully integrated part of the Fury system.

'OHTO is an outstanding fit with the Fury family and will expand its operational capabilities. Our Kontio was the world's first third‐generation catapult launcher for UAS. Robonic is fully committed to continuous innovation, and OHTO clearly demonstrates our current leadership and future objectives in the UAS launcher market.'
