Udar evolves with no destination in sight

What is the next step for the Udar combat UGV, after it has already undergone two redesigns in its short lifetime?

Design refinements to the Udar armed UGV continue in Russia, some six years after the initial prototype was unveiled during the annual MoD Innovation Day in 2015.

This arguably reflects broader technological trends with more capable components and subsystems emerging in the intervening years; but it also hints at a lack of clarity as to the tactical role envisaged for Udar.

Images released in February 2021 by state-run defence conglomerate Rostec showed a new look for Udar, with a redesigned hull as the third significant design change to the UGV since it first saw the light of day.
