Russia plans airborne surveillance radar on rotary-wing UAV

Russian rotary-wing UAV developments continue apace, with programmes to integrate a long-range airborne surveillance radar for C-UAS and delivery of heavy target UAVs to the Russian Aerospace Forces.

An unmanned long-range radar surveillance helicopter has been under development since November, state-run news agency RIA Novosti reported in early December.

This helicopter will track small and low-speed enemy UAVs at low and extremely low altitudes, ensuring that the Russian air defence network can target anti-aircraft missile systems.

Citing a source, RIA Novosti said that work on the system ‘was initiated on the basis of analysis of experience in recent local conflicts,
