Northrop closes in on international Firebird order
Northrop Grumman has revealed it is preparing to announce a new Firebird optionally piloted MALE ISR aircraft order for an international customer.
Negotiations are under way to finalise the deal but the manufacturer was ‘not in a position’ during a 19 August virtual media briefing to share details about how many aircraft would be ordered, how the platform (or platforms) will be configured or delivery dates.
A recent series of manned Firebird flight trials lasting 45h in the Mojave Desert, Southern California, saw the aircraft involved in wide-area search, simulated high-value target tracking and overwatch operations.
