Czech Republic sheds more light on UCAV ambitions

Procurement of armed UAVs will plug a gap in the Czech military inventory

The Czech Republic MoD is allocating substantial financial resources to buy an undisclosed number of tactical UCAVs from 2023 to 2027.

The MoD expects the new equipment to cost CZK1.5 billion ($65.7 million), which is the equivalent of 2% of the overall defence budget for 2020. The UCAVs will be delivered to the 533rd Unmanned Aircraft Systems Battalion in the eastern city of Prostějov.

This unit was formed in January 2020 with a view to reaching IOC by 2025. It is subordinate to the 53rd Regiment of Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare.
