Callen-Lenz Mosquito omission is a tale of the unexpected

In an odd twist, Callen-Lenz has been omitted from Team Mosquito — the industry collaboration contracted to design and manufacture a low-cost, 'loyal wingman' type UAV for the RAF.

Callen-Lenz has revealed that the reason behind its surprising absence from the latest stage of the UK’s Project Mosquito ‘loyal wingman’ programme will not be made public because of commercial sensitivity issues.  

The UAV manufacturer had been the lead member of Team Blackdawn, alongside Bombardier Belfast and Northrop Grumman UK, when Project Mosquito Phase 1 contracts were originally issued to industry in April 2019.

Yet it was cut from proceedings without explanation, when the MoD announced on 25 January 2021 that SpiritAero Belfast (replacing Bombardier Belfast after an acquisition) had been selected to lead Team Mosquito.
