Patrollers will be delivered with PicoSAR

Leonardo has announced that its PicoSAR radar will be integrated onto the French army's new Safran Patroller unmanned aerial vehicle, following an order for 14 examples of the aircraft by the DGA procurement agency in April 2016.

Patroller beat Thales' Watchkeeper to win the coveted award, and although PicoSAR was part of Safran's bid to the DGA, details on the radar selection have only just been revealed.

At some point over this coming year Leonardo will provide nine of the radars for integration under the multi-million Euro contract, with the aim to equip eight air vehicles with the synthetic aperture
