Paris Air Show 2013: UAVs go Universal
Schweitzer Ingenieur has launched the Universal UAV, a commercial platform initially designed for fire-fighting applications.
Introduced during the Paris Air Show, the platform is designed for a variety of civil applications, although the prevalence of forest fires in places such as Australia makes the use of it in this way likely.
‘This was a government supported idea more or less,’ Ing Bert Schwitzer, GM of the company told Shephard. ‘It was designed for fire fighting purposes. If you have the technology for this today you can do any type of surveillance.
‘We are thinking about using it in “normal” unrestricted
