Jammer resistant drone designs spark search for countermeasures
The Russia-Ukraine conflict has driven another stage of evolution for drones and the counter measures to defend against them.
Kongsberg Maritime has received three orders from hydrographic and geophysical survey company Ocean Infinity to deliver a total of five new Hugin AUVs, the company announced on 7 November.
The orders will increase Ocean Infinity’s Hugin inventory to 15. The AUVs will be supplied with Kongsberg Maritime’s HISAS 1032 synthetic aperture sonar, giving Ocean Infinity a total of six Hugins with the ability to deliver high resolution imaging in its fleet.
HISAS generates high resolution range independent imagery and full swath bathymetry. Coupled with the other sensors on board, the Hugin AUVs produce a data set including HISAS imagery and bathymetry, EM2040 bathymetry, sub-bottom profiler data and colour photographs.
Thomas Nygaard, VP, Marine Robotics, Kongsberg Maritime, said: ‘The latest order from Ocean Infinity cements its status as one of Kongsberg Maritime’s most important customers. We are pleased to continue to support Ocean Infinity’s operations and value the confidence placed in the Hugin AUV.
‘The capabilities of our marine robotics department continue to grow, and complex multiple vehicle operations in ultra-deep water by Ocean Infinity drives that process to push the boundaries of what is possible.’
