Northrop technology on nEUROn UCAV
Northrop Grumman, together with Saab Aerosystems, has supplied the attitude and heading reference system (AHRS) for the nEUROn unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) demonstrator, it was announced on 7 March. The nEUROn has now completed over 100 test flights in Sweden, Italy and France.
Northrop Grumman LITEF, a German subsidiary, provided the fibre-optic, gyro-compassing LCR-100 AHRS. The LCR-100 has been developed according to DO-254 and DO-178 standards and is Technical Standard Order/European Technical Standard Order certified.
The LCR-100 provides hybrid inertial and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) navigation information via a separate GNSS unit, as well as primary flight control information to the nEUROn flight control system.
Dassault Aviation is the prime contractor for the nEUROn UCAV demonstrator. According to Dassault, the LCR-100 has proved its capability to provide accurate and reliable information during all nEUROn flight test campaigns.
The nEUROn programme is led by France and includes industry partners and the governments of Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Italy and Greece. It aims to develop, test and sustain technologies for use by European manufacturers in next-generation combat aircraft and UAVs.
