New target drone complete for Italian operations

After unveiling its new Mirach-40 (M-40) target drone during Paris Air Show 2017 Leonardo has been given the green light to operate the system with the Italian Navy.

Following testing at the PISQ joint armed forces test range in Sardinia, the M-40 has been authorised for operational use by the Italian Directorate of Air Armaments and Airworthiness (DAAA), as the national Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA).

The Italian armed forces will not itself acquire any of the target drones, rather Leonardo will provide the M-40’s as part of an ongoing service.
