NAF inducts first indigenous UAV

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has inducted its first indigenous UAS, Tsaigumi, into service.

The Tsaigumi UAS, produced by NAF Aerospace in collaboration with UAVision of Portugal, will be used for ISR operations in land and sea domains. Missions will include policing operations, disaster management, convoy protection, maritime patrol, the protection of wildlife, search and rescue, pipeline and power line monitoring as well as mapping and border patrol.

The UAS is capable of day and night operations with an operational endurance of more than ten hours, a service ceiling of 15,000ft and a mission radius of 100km. It has a maximum take-off weight of 95kg and it carries an electro-optic/infra-red camera system.

The NAF is also working on the development of a UAS called Ichoku, which will be the first indigenous unmanned combat aerial vehicle.
