More UAS exemptions on the way, says FAA

THE US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) says the two exemptions granted to commercial UAV companies this week are a sign of things to come.

An FAA spokesperson told Shephard Media that working through the 214 companies that have asked for an exemption has been ‘challenging’, but the agency is coping and processing them as quickly as possible.

For those companies waiting to hear if their request – or ‘petition’ as it is officially called – has been dealt with, the FAA has set a 120-day limit for itself to respond. This means waiting up to four months.
