Malaysia lays groundwork for ScanEagle 2 arrival

The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) inaugurated a nucleus UAS team on 21 November in preparation for the 2019 induction of ScanEagle 2s provided by the US under the Maritime Security Initiative (MSI) programme.

The nucleus team, led by Lt Cdr Mohamad Nizam, a helicopter pilot, will formulate all activities and requirements, leading to formation of a UAS squadron.

The RMN stated that it is scheduled to receive two ScanEagle 2 systems in Q2 of 2019, with maintenance support and spares for 2,000 flight hours.
