L3 Harris to build protoype medium USV
L3Harris Technologies is to design and build a prototype medium USV (MUSV) for the USN under a $35 million contract, the DoD announced on 13 July.
The deal was awarded after a competitive tender. It includes options for up to eight additional MUSVs, logistics packages, engineering support, technical data, and other direct costs.
L3 Harris will fulfil the contract by December 2022 at its facilities in Morgan City, Louisiana (72.7%); Arlington, Virginia (9.8%); Jeanerette, Louisiana (8.1%); New Orleans, Louisiana (6.6%); Worthington, Ohio (1.7%); Lafayette, Louisiana (0.9 %); and Gautier, Mississippi (0.2%).
If all options are exercised, the overall value of the contract will rise to $281.43 million with a final completion date of June 2027.
