Indian Navy prepares to dip toes into unmanned arena

The Indian Navy (IN) is on the hunt for two new types of unmanned vessel – a high-endurance autonomous underwater vehicle (HEAUV) and USV – according to two RfIs released last month.

The HEAUV RfI was released on 14 May, with the navy seeking eight such craft and an associated simulator. The AUVs will conduct either anti-submarine warfare (ASW), mine countermeasures (MCM), ISR and oceanography according to whichever module is installed in the AUV at the time.
