Indian Army launches hunt for 60 UAVs

The Indian Army is seeking a short-range UAV to boost the ISR capabilities of combat units deployed along the country’s borders with China and Pakistan.

An RfI issued by the army’s Artillery Directorate has projected an initial requirement of 60 such systems to transmit real-time imagery and electronic data to soldiers to increase their operational efficiency and to give them superior situation awareness.

A senior army officer told Shephard that the MoD approved the project in July under the ‘Make’ category of India’s Defence Procurement Procedure 2016, which aims to develop long-term indigenous military capabilities.
