IAI develops autonomous IED detection system
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has completed the development of an autonomous improvised explosive device (IED) detection and neutralisation system, the company announced on 8 October.
Part of the company's SAHAR family, the system is installed on an IAI robotic ground vehicle and integrates multiple sensors for generating a real-time image of the environment. The sensor payload can detect IEDs placed and hidden in complex areas, including under the surface; the system can then engage and neutralise threats as necessary using a blade installed on the vehicle.
The system, which includes the robotic platform, the control system and the relevant detection payloads, can manoeuvre autonomously without danger to human life, and can operate in any terrain for explosive detection and route clearance operations. Each system can be adapted to meet specific customer requirements.
The system will now be transferred to operational trials for testing and evaluation.
