What's next for the Pentagon after the Replicator programme?
Although the Replicator initiative has made several accomplishments, there are still multiple gaps to plug across the US Department of Defense (DoD) and its services.
Hydroid has received an order from the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science Technology (JAMSTEC) for its Remus 6000 AUV to support deep sea resource exploration, the company announced on 19 November.
The equipment will support Japan's Strategic Innovation Promotion Program: Innovative Technology for Exploration of Deep Sea Resources.
The Remus 6000 features a modular architecture that allows for the addition of multiple payloads including customer sensor packages, forward fins and additional battery sections. The AUV’s new low-power core electronics and a hydrodynamic hull design offer increased endurance for longer missions.
Graham Lester, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Hydroid, said: ‘We are honoured to be able to supply the deep water AUV solution to support JAMSTEC's highly respected deep sea resource exploration capabilities.
‘Our vehicle, with a modular architecture that allows for advanced capabilities and flexibility of operation, is the ideal solution for JAMSTEC's current and future operational needs.’
