Heron 1 multiplies RSAF capabilities

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Heron 1 UAV, manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), attained a milestone as it makes its way toward full operational capability in early 2016. 

During Exercise Forging Sabre in Arizona two Heron 1s from 119 and 128 Squadrons was tasked with live target acquisition and cooperative lasing. They successfully tracked and cooperatively lased six moving targets with four F-15SG fighters, enabling destruction of the vehicles in a solo F-15SG Laser-JDAM pass.

According to Maj Collin Tan, officer commanding 119 Squadron, Forging Sabre also validated the Heron 1’s take-off and landing norms, turnarounds times,
