'Sense-and-avoid' DRR flies on Predator B
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc (GA-ASI) has completed a successful flight test of its pre-production Due Regard Radar (DRR) for the Predator B UAS, as announced on 12 February.
According to the company, this marks the first fully-functional air-to-air DRR on an UAS.
Frank Pace, president, aircraft systems, GA-ASI, said: 'DRR will allow users to operate Predator B independently in international airspace without the need for land-based, sea-based, or off-board airborne airspace surveillance.'
The test validated the DRR's functionality on-board a Predator B, along with integration with the Traffic alert and Collision Avoidance System II with resolution advisories. The Predator B automatically and successfully executed collision avoidance manoeuvers to verify system functionality and validate hardware-in-the-loop simulations.
GA-ASI's Due Regard capability, which includes the pre-production DRR as well as other components, can now be taken by a customer into an operational environment for testing and evaluation.
