Further 3D printed UAV trials possible

The recent trials of 3D printed UAVs being launched off a UK Royal Navy warship could be extended to include recovery at sea operations.

Last month the University of Southampton successfully tested the launch of its SULSA UAV from the foredeck of the River-class OPV HMS Mersey, off the Dorset coast. Weighing in at 3kg and measuring 1.5m the airframe was created on a 3D printer and catapulted into the Wyke Regis Training Facility in Weymouth, before landing on Chesil Beach.
