Ferra bags Triton UAS supplier contract
Ferra Engineering has been awarded the first Australian supplier contract for the initial production lot of the US Navy's MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft system (UAS), in a contract awarded by Northrop Grumman.
Under the contract Ferra Engineering will manufacture mechanical sub-assemblies, including structural components, for the first four Triton UAS. The contract was facilitated through the Australian government's Global Supply Chain programme.
Ian Irving, CEO, Northrop Grumman Australia, said: 'At Northrop Grumman it's very important to not only develop our own capabilities, but to develop and foster capabilities in local supply chains.
'This is a great opportunity for quality-focused Australian companies to be involved in the production and sustainment of one of the US Navy's and Royal Australian Air Force's key capabilities for many years to come.'
The Australian government announced its plans in March 2014 to purchase the Triton for high-altitude, long-endurance surveillance operations.
