Farnborough 2010: CENTCOM to receive Fire Scout by 2011

Northrop Grumman's MQ-8B Fire Scout unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) will make its operational debut under US Central Command (CENTCOM) in 2011, according to company officials.

Speaking at the Farnborough International Air Show on 20 July, Northrop Grumman director for business development tactical unmanned systems, Michael Fuqua, said the frigate USS Halyburton would be equipped with a single Fire Scout system before deploying to the area of operations (AOR).

Comprising between one and three MQ-8B airframes, a single system will conduct maritime operations only in the CENTCOM AOR which includes Afghanistan and Iraq. Tasks are likely to include anti-submarine and anti-surface
