Experts reflect on Chinese and Iranian UAV milestones

The sovereignty of Western UAV development has been challenged this week, as details emerge regarding latest developments in Chinese and Iranian systems.

Media reports coming out of Iran have revealed the development of a new UAV which bears a striking resemblance to the Israeli Heron aircraft. Elsewhere, it has been reported that China has conducted the first flight test of its ‘Sharp Sword’ UCAV.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the Iranian defence minister, Mohammad Dehgan, unveiled ‘Fotros’- the largest indigenous strategic platform to date- on 19 November.
