Eurosatory 2010: MULE examined for C-IED role

Last month Lockheed Martin received a request from the US Department of Defense for a proposal to equip the company's Multifunction Utility/Logistics and Equipment (MULE) UGV for the counter-improvised explosive device (C-IED) mission, director for international business development Morri Leland said at Eurosatory.

The MULE is one of the technologies that was spun out of the now defunct Future Combat Systems programme, although the original 11 variants were reduced to three largely focusing on the assault mission. However, Leland said that there was renewed interest in examining the possibility of fielding the UGV in the C-IED mission.
