Elbit Systems introduces Skylark C
Elbit Systems has introduced a new mini UAS called Skylark C designed for martime applications, the company announced on 15 August.
The UAS draws on Elbit Systems' Skylark I mini UAS, with additional enhancements to extend its operational capabilities into the maritime intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) domain.
As a maritime vessel organic asset, Skylark C has been designed to inspect maritime activities and observe targets from a stand-off distance, and perform reconnaissance and surveillance missions, extending the vessel’s ISR capabilities.
The electrically-propelled UAS has a low visual and acoustic signature, making it well suited for covert operations such as special naval operations, border security, anti-terrorism and anti-piracy operations. It carries an inertial navigation system and a stabilized electro-optical payload with a high resolution thermal imager and colour daylight camera that enables continuous day/night monitoring in diverse weather conditions. Video is transmitted in real time.
Skylark C is retrieved via a fully autonomous parachute system, allowing the lightweight waterproof air vehicle to glide, land and float on water surfaces guided by GPS. A net recovery on deck is an optional capability. Two operators are required to operate the system.
