DSEI 2015: Next-gen Zephyr in the making

Airbus Defence and Space is making its next-generation version of high altitude pseudo-satellite (HAPS) Zephyr. 

The new UAV will have a 35m wingspan in comparison to the current Zephyr 8’s 25m wingspan. According to the company, a possible name for the new HAPS is the Z350 although this is not its official title and is currently known simply as Zephyr 9. 

Airbus D&S calls it a pseudo satellite because it is a long-endurance UAV that can perform the function of a satellite. Although it stays within the atmosphere it still operates at a high altitude.
