DSEI 2013: New mine countermeasure USV unveiled

Atlas Elektronik has developed an optionally piloted vessel, the Atlas Remote Combined Influence Minesweeping Systems (ARCIMS), which is on order with an undisclosed naval customer.

Revealed during the DSEI exhibition, the mine countermeasures (MCM) platform is an entirely new vessel designed for this particular application, and benefits the user by removing them from the potentially dangerous mine zones.

‘This is the next generation of mine countermeasures,’ Dave Berry, PM for ARCIMS, said at the launch. He explained that manned platforms usually carry out these tasks, ‘but there is always the risk that the mine actuates’.
