Defexpo 2014: IAI unveils new multi-function USV

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has developed new unmanned surface vessel (USV), called Katana, that has been designed for homeland security missions.

IAI announced prior to the launch of the Defexpo exhibition in Delhi on 4 February that the USV’s role is to support maritime units in the protection of exclusive economic zones, harbour security, patrol of shallow coastal and territorial waters, surface and EW and offshore platform protection.

‘The system’s dual operational mode allows for fully autonomous operation controlled via an advanced command and control station, as well as for a manned combat operational mode,’ the company stated.
