Although the Replicator initiative has made several accomplishments, there are still multiple gaps to plug across the US Department of Defense (DoD) and its services.
Drone Delivery Canada (DDC) has been selected by Transport Canada to participate in its Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight (BVLOS) pilot project, the company announced 1 June.
The project will utilise DDC's UAS delivery platform including its FLYTE management system, DroneSpot technology and the Sparrow X1000 UAS. The BVLOS project intends to bring a new set of delivery services to meet the requirements of remote Northern communities.
The project will take place in the Town of Moosonee and the Moose Cree First Nation in Northern Ontario, with UAS deliveries that will include letters, packages and medical deliveries from a large group of DDC's existing customer base.
The company will work with Transport Canada, The National Research Council and various technology and commercial partners to deploy and operate this next generation UAS delivery platform.
Tony Di Benedetto, CEO, DDC, said: ‘We are quickly advancing our technology out of the lab and into the skies. This begins with DDC providing a logistical solution for remote communities where infrastructure is limited or non-existent.
‘The opportunity to help drive social and economic betterment to these communities by deploying our drone deliver platform is evident and with approximately 1000 of these communities across Canada's north, we see this region as a great opportunity for us.’
