Chinese UCAVs proliferate unexpectedly

Chinese UCAVs capable of deadly armed missions have been turning up in odd places in recent times, including Kazakhstan and Myanmar.

Kazakhstan displayed a Wing Loong 1 UCAV at its KADEX 2016 defence show in Astana from 2-5 June. Built by the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group (CAIG), this is first confirmation that the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan are operating the platform.

The Wing Loong 1, with a 4,000km range, is available in both reconnaissance and armed versions. The platform on display at KADEX 2016 was not armed, but it was equipped with underwing hardpoints.
