Chinese military UAV makers expand into civilian market

State-owned makers of UAVs are rushing into the civilian market, according to a report released by the China Daily on 14 April 2015. Furthermore, defence contractors are deliberately moving into the UAV sector to garner sales in this lucrative sector.

The article quoted Ma Hongzhong, director of the Unmanned Aircraft Research Institute of the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) conglomerate: ‘Several years ago we were only a research studio, but the company recently expanded it into an institute in order to use the company’s cruise missile experience and expertise in drone research.’
