China tests ‘military’ paragliding UAV

In another innovation in the unmanned field from China, news emerged this week of a paragliding UAV that has recently concluded tests in Tibet.

Chinese researchers have completed the final field tests of the new platform, and the milestone was ‘a prelude to China soon embarking on its first robotic air cargo fleet for military operations or disaster relief’, according to South China Morning Post in Hong Kong.

Instead of using fixed wings or rotors like conventional UAVs, this type utilises a powered parachute to give lift. The design belongs to the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Shenyang Institute of Automation,
