China explores military UGV designs

A special UGV trial, named Conquer Obstacle 2016, was recently held in China, the PLA Daily has publicised. 

The aim of the unmanned ground system challenge was to explore robotic technologies that might be suitable for service in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Thus, the competition was sponsored by the Equipment Department of the military.

A preliminary contest was held in Tahe in northern Heilongjiang Province from 6-13 September, and this saw 73 teams from 44 different military and civilian universities as well as private companies, compete.
