Avalon 2015: Lockheed Martin goes shark hunting

Trials are planned in the use of Lockheed Martin’s small Indago quad-rotor UAV for shark-spotting, it has emerged.

The platform has an endurance of 45 minutes with a 0.2 kg payload and has a range of 2km or 5km with external patch antennas and is provided in Australia by HeliWest.

Lockheed Martin unmanned solutions business development manager Steven Fortson outlined the potential applications of the platform when speaking at the Australian Airshow near Melbourne on 24 February.

‘It provides a capability beyond most UAVs of this size and type and there is no assembly required and batteries can be changed
